AI reached deeper into the file this week. Custody of that file is now a live question.

Every major release this week moved AI closer to the systems where case work actually lives. Files, inboxes, calendars, task boards. For most industries that is a convenience story. For claims and legal teams it is a custody story, and custody is a duty you have to be able to evidence.

    5 to know
    01

The new ChatGPT does not just draft. It reaches into the case file.

OpenAI shipped GPT-5.6 on Thursday and bundled ChatGPT Work, a single agentic workspace spanning browsing, files, connected apps and scheduling. OpenAI confirmed GPT-5.6 stays the preferred model behind Microsoft Copilot 365. The model bump is not the story. The reach is.

CaseFlow angle. Write the disclosure line before you write the prompt. Before any AI tool is connected to a matter folder or claims inbox, record which systems it can reach, who approved the connection, and what the client was told.
    02

Copilot changed engines. Did your AI policy notice?

Microsoft is reportedly routing tens of thousands of weekly prompts in Excel and Outlook to its own in-house MAI models rather than OpenAI or Anthropic. The interface looks identical. The model underneath does not.

CaseFlow angle. If your AI policy names a supplier, name the model layer too. Ask your provider in writing to notify you when the model behind a feature changes. Confidentiality terms follow the model, not the logo.
    03

Full-duplex voice arrived. First notification of loss is next.

OpenAI's GPT-Live voice mode now listens and speaks at the same time, handles interruptions and searches mid-call. GPT-Realtime-2.1 cuts latency and adds tool calling. Voice is now good enough to sit on the front of an intake line.

CaseFlow angle. Decide the boundary before a voice agent touches a live FNOL. What it may capture, what it must escalate, how the recording is retained. A statement taken by a machine is still a statement.
    04

Two lawsuits and a leak warning landed on the AI vendors.

Apple sued OpenAI over alleged trade secret theft. British Columbia took OpenAI to court. A security warning flagged that Anthropic's Claude Code could expose user data. Vendor risk is now litigation risk.

CaseFlow angle. Add one line to your next supplier review. What happens to our matter data if this vendor is sued, breached, or has a product pulled. Get it in writing before you renew.
    05

Fake insurers, real claims. IFED goes after the spoof websites.

The Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department has partnered with Nominet to take down spoof insurer websites, while Aviva reports record levels of claims fraud as generative tools are abused and Quantexa warns smaller insurers lack the detection depth to keep up. The counterfeit now survives a first read.

CaseFlow angle. Verify the counterparty, not just the document. Add a source check to any policy, certificate, invoice or hire agreement that arrives by email, and confirm the domain against your approved list before a payment or a credit hire decision is made on it.

Sector signal for claims teams, law firms, and credit hire.

LexisNexis says motor claims is still reacting, not deciding.

LexisNexis warned this week that motor claims handling remains fragmented and reactive, and sits behind underwriting on data-driven automation. The gap is not appetite. The data arrives too late to change the decision.

CaseFlow angle. Pick the decision on your claims journey made with the least information, usually liability or hire need. Move one data check earlier and measure the effect on cycle time.

Aviva takes life quoting into ChatGPT. The integration is the hard part.

Aviva expanded its ChatGPT insurance app to include life quoting and is backing the assistant as a real sales channel. Compare the Market said building the app was the easy part, and wiring it into the systems behind it was the hard one.

CaseFlow angle. If work reaches you through third-party channels, ask what changes when one of them is an AI assistant. The intake form you rely on may not be the first thing your customer touches.

    The CaseFlow Take

The headlines this week were about models. Underneath them sat a quieter shift. Every release moved AI a step closer to the systems where the real work sits. ChatGPT Work reaches files and calendars. The upgraded Slackbot reads across connected apps. Notion put agents on a phone. In most industries that is a productivity story. In ours it is a custody story. A case file is not a folder. It is a set of duties about who may see what, and when.

We are not arguing for slower adoption. We are arguing for a written record. The teams that will move fastest with AI over the next year are the ones that can answer three questions on demand: what can this tool reach, who approved it, and what did we tell the client. Answer those and you can connect with confidence. Leave them open and a good tool becomes a bad disclosure.

The model does not hold privilege. Your process does.
